Our Community engagement programme – called Celebrating Sanctuary Local – works with local community hubs to develop activities to educate and promote how to welcome and include RAS in local community life. it can includes workshops for local partners, ‘welcome chats’ bringing residents together to discuss potential activities and localised events co-created with refugees and asylum seekers and local residents.
The key aims of the project are:
- Provide more opportunities for everyday interaction between host communities and refugees and asylum seekers to help prevent feelings of loneliness and isolation.
- To enable host communities to have the confidence and knowledge to engage with refugee and asylum seekers in their area, enabling them to create places of welcome and inclusion.
- Encourage refugees and asylum seekers to contribute their skills, knowledge and experience to their local community.
- To animate local community spaces with vibrant events for all ages and backgrounds.

Together with Bristol City of Sanctuary and Bridges for Communities, we’re working to make Bristol a warmer, more welcoming city. Discover more about our partnership by scanning the QR code on the poster or clicking the link below.
We are currently working in a number of areas within Bristol, but would like to encourage more communities to get involved. We can offer support, advice and training to communities. If you are a community hub or group please get in touch with our engagement team to get involved!
